I met Grace Mitchell over 4 decades ago through her daughter, Marilyn, a dear student of mine. Grace soon became a very close friend. Strengthening this bond of friendship was the fact that Grace's 14 year old daughter, Susan, was a close friend with another 14 year old Susan, daughter of an interesting widower in the Mitchell's neighborhood. Mother Grace saw the opportunity of what still appears to be "heavenly intervention". She called both families and invited them to a picnic with her own family. And - the handsome widower, Gardner Williams and I, Betty Woods at the time, accepted the invitation. That afternoon, strangers met and became acquaintances. Acquaintances became friends, and about a year later, these friends- Gardner, Susan, Phillip, Betty, Debbie & Lisa became family - all because Grace Mitchell followed through on her perceptivity. Is it any wonder that I shall always have a very special place in my heart for Grace? And I shall also forever remember her many lovely attributes - loyalty, helpfulness, gentleness, cheerfulness, and an amazing abundance of genuine joy. Betty Williams
